Romantic Golf Getaways: Top Resorts for Couples in the US

There are a lot of golf resorts in America— over 200 in our database— so this Valentine’s Day, we thought it would be appropriate to highlight some of the best golf resorts in America for couples. To do this, we came up with two criteria to whittle down the list. First, we wanted to find resorts that cater to couples. As a father of two, it’s nice sometimes to get away from the kids and go somewhere that’s centered around adults. Second, we wanted to find resorts with amenities and activities that would be enjoyable whether or not your significant other plays golf. Here are some of the resorts that really stood out to us:

Destination Kohler

Kohler, WI

Kohler features the only five-star, five-diamond resort in the Midwest, the American Club. Next door is the Kohler Waters Spa, one of the best full-service spas in the country. There are several restaurants to choose from— brunch at The Wisconsin Room and cheese curds at The Horse & Plow are highlights. Golf courses include Whistling Straits, home of the 2021 Ryder Cup, as well as Blackwolf Run, which hosted the U.S. Women’s Open in 1998 and 2012. There’s also a new par-3 course and putting course at Blackwolf Run, which is only a short drive from the lodging options at Kohler.

Boulders Resort & Spa

Scottsdale, AZ

The Boulders Resort features sweeping views of the Sonoran Desert and offers cozy accommodations with wood-burning fireplaces and natural stone showers. The adobe buildings throughout the property blend perfectly with the desert environment. The resort features a 33,000-square-foot spa, four pools, seven restaurants, and plenty of outdoor activities. There are two Jay Morrish designed courses on site and both are currently ranked in Golfweek’s top 20 public courses in Arizona.

Barton Creek

Austin, TX

Located in Texas Hill Country and only 20 minutes from Downtown Austin, Barton Creek is set on 4,000 scenic acres. The resort includes a full-service spa, expansive fitness center, and adults-only infinity pool. There are plenty of outdoor activities, such as hiking on the many nature trails, and a variety of dining options, from casual to chop house. There are four golf courses at the resort, including the Fazio Canyons which has been ranked as a Top 100 public course, as well as a Golf Academy.

Keswick Hall

Keswick, VA

Located two hours southwest of Washington, D.C. just outside of Charlottesville, Keswick will probably be lesser known than many of the resorts on this list. While this boutique hotel is smaller, it’s chock-full of quality. Jean-Georges has a restaurant there called Marigold, and the spa does not cut any corners. The T-shaped infinity pool is a great place to lounge, and the newly redesigned tennis facility features European red clay surfaces. Pete and Alice Dye redesigned the layout in 2013 and Dye protege Scot Sherman recently renovated the course, one of the best in central Virginia.

Pebble Beach

Pebble Beach, CA

Guests can choose to stay at The Lodge, The Inn at Spanish Bay, or the Casa Palmero with luxurious accommodations and views of the ocean and dunes. The golf portfolio may be one of the best of any resort in the world: the famed Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hill, The Links at Spanish Bay, the Del Monte, and The Hay, a short course redesigned in 2021 by Tiger Woods. A spa and wellness center, multiple pools, multiple dining options, outdoor activities on site, and the beautiful Monterey Peninsula and 17-Mile Drive provide much to see and do outside of golf. Nearby, Carmel offers multiple wine tasting rooms if you’re into that sort of thing.

Silverado Resort & Spa

Napa, CA

Speaking of wine, Silverado Resort and Spa is surrounded by more than 400 wineries! Located less than five miles from downtown Napa on 300 acres, the resort offers luxurious accommodations, full-service spa, fitness center, four restaurants, a pool, tennis, pickleball, and hiking trails. There are two golf courses on the property, both designed by Robert Trent Jones in the 1960s and renovated by local legend Johnny Miller about a decade ago. The North course hosts the annual Fortigent Championship, formerly known as the Safeway Open, a PGA tour event that was most recently won by Max Homa.

Four Seasons Hualalai

Kailua-Kona, HI

We had to include a resort in Hawaii on our list and the Four Seasons Hualalai may be the best suited for couples. This five-star beachfront resort boasts several pools, a beach, full-service spa, several dining options, and even a marine center. The course is a stunner, with black lava features and the final holes along the oceanfront. The Jack Nicklaus design is always in pristine shape and hosts an annual Champions Tour event.

Enchantment Resort

Sedona, AZ

Sedona has to be seen to be believed— the landscape is so beautiful and unique. The Enchantment Resort is located in a secluded canyon and features a world-class spa, pool, dining options, fitness center, and hiking trails. The casitas are extremely quaint and feature private patios overlooking the red rock formations of the surrounding canyon. While the resort does not have a course on property, guests have access to nearby private Seven Canyons, a gorgeous Tom Weiskopf design that looks like a fantasy course in a Tiger Woods video game. This would be a great option for any couple that loves to mix time between relaxation and activity, with so many outdoor activities available in Sedona.

Chateau Elan

Braselton, GA

Located one hour away from Atlanta, this French-style chateau is located on 3,500 acres and features vineyards, a winery, a 35,000 square foot spa and fitness center, new tennis facilities, and seven restaurants. The winery features a cellar for wine tastings. Guests can choose from multiple accommodation options, including at the main inn or separate two or three bedroom villas on the golf course. Speaking of golf, there are four courses on site, including an 18-hole short course. While the quality of the golf courses don’t necessarily measure up to other destinations on this list, the overall offering at the resort makes it one of the best for couples in the entire country.
